Photography Basics Q&A
Oftentimes when I do an ‘Ask Me Anything’ question box on my IG Stories, I’ll get an assortment of photography questions. Some of the recent Q’s I’ve gotten include:
“Best tips for shooting for a newbie?”
“How to capture the best light when shooting?”
“How to become more comfortable in front of the camera, as a photographer?”
“What are the flatlay pics I shoot on?”
… and lots more! So let’s address some of these and several more. Sound good? Time to dive in!
My Best iPhone Photography Tips:
☀️ always make sure your lens is clean before shooting
☀️ shoot next to a natural light source, turn off all overhead artificial lights
☀️ if you want to adjust exposure, tap your screen and pull down on the sun dial to darken, or pull up to lighten.
☀️ watch some mobile LR youtube tutorials for editing— even as a seasoned photographer, I can say mobile LR isn’t that user friendly.
☀️you won’t be comfortable in front of the camera until you start putting yourself in front of the camera. shoot on live view and don’t feel dumb! it’s not dumb to learn a new skill. as with anything, practice takes time and consistent training.
☀️ if your whites look blue, it means the white balance is too cool. increase yellows or warmth.
☀️ if everything looks too yellow, it means your white balance is too warm. increase blues.
☀️ don’t feel like you have to shoot on portrait mode, I never do!

☀️ thoughts on FaceTune: you don’t need facetune, you probably just need better lighting. face a window or other natural light source or shoot in open shade.
