refreshing dry winter hair 101

As the weather slowly gets nicer and the sun has started to stick around a bit longer each day, springtime feels like it’s within reach. if you’re anything like me, you’re so ready for the change of season. mostly because this past winter, i really noticed how much my hair and skin craved moisture. It may have been the bizarre weather patterns we experienced throughout winter, or that I tend to be horrible at drinking water (ha!). Regardless, I was sure to give my hair lots of tlc to compensate.

Here are some of my go-to tips for refreshing your winter hair. I’ve also included info on the color i’ve been going with lately as i’ve noticed quite a few q’s on the exact formula.

fight that winter dryness

the main reason why your hair can split and break more easily in the winter months? lack of humidity, much drier heat inside and out. this can cause static, an itchy, flaky scalp and more thirsty ends.⁣

what to do about it?⁣

  • 𝗼𝗶𝗹 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀! scalp to ends, 1-2 times a week.⁣

  • advanced hydration 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝗾𝘂𝗲 in the shower every 3-4 washes. shampoo twice with a moisturizing shampoo (only scalp, not ends), squeeze all excess water out, apply masque, leave in 3-5 minutes, rinse and apply moisturizing conditioner. shampoo scalp, masque ears and down, condition ends. ⁣

  • apply a few pumps of the 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲-𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗿 to your ends every night before bed and after washing on towel dried hair. ⁣

  • 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲. a dry, itchy scalp needs moisture and hydration, not just from your hair products but also from the inside. a single strand of hair is made up of 25% water. hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.⁣

  • 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗳𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗽 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝘂𝗯 once every 4-5 washes. gently exfoliates the scalp while providing nourishment. if you exfoliate dry skin in the winter, you can’t forget your scalp!⁣

  • always, always use a 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁. your hair is already more fragile during the winter months, don’t skip this step. ⁣

  • swap your usual shampoo and conditioner for a plant based keratin one, like the Damage Repair line. it’s a low suds gentle cleanser that reverses damage to delicate strands.⁣

  • Also, don’t got to bed with wet hair! 𝘄𝗲𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗻𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴. wet, fragile, extra dry ends due to the winter months? even more prone to breakage if you sleep on it wet. and don’t forget to sleep on a silk pillowcase! ⁣
