13 Secrets To Building A Successful Business

when i think back to all the things i wish someone had told me before starting my own business, the list is long. there is so much i didn’t know when i dove head first into being an entrepreneur.

So i’ve compiled the top 13 things i wish i could tell my younger self. i hope they’re of help to you, too!

01. it’s harder than you think and much harder than it looks. if it were easy, everyone would do it. ⁣

02. don’t get so caught up with becoming “good” that you neglect being a 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵 boss to yourself. ⁣

03. half of what you bring in isn’t yours to keep. but with that said, I give you permission to roll your eyes at any accountant who says “ohh, you owe a lot this year, what a good problem to have!” 😂⁣

04. consistency always beats talent. in the beginning, I didn’t realize the absolute value of consistency, I just knew it was all I had. if you have a pain point that’s strong enough, the business doesn’t have to beg you to show up every day. 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱. ⁣

05. all experts were once beginners. the secret sauce to managing mood, the constant feeling of being overwhelmed and growing pains— 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲. keep being teachable, coachable, and be okay with being a beginner. ⁣

06. no one owes you anything, and no one is coming to save you. the success of your business is up to you and only you.

07. the sacrifice isn’t mine alone. my family will sacrifice alongside me. 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝘁. ⁣

08. it takes a village. building your village and building your network are the same thing, and you won’t be able to do it without them.⁣

09. don’t listen to anyone who hasn’t done what you want to do. ⁣

10. write a business plan and reassess every 6-12 months. ⁣

11. whoever succeeds the “most” also failed the most. 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝗻.⁣

12. self-development is a daily requirement— because not only do you have to deal with your own self-doubt and waves of imposter syndrome, the people who don’t believe in you won’t be kind enough to keep those opinions to themselves— instead? 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙚. 🙄 they point and laugh along the way, watching and waiting for you to fail. 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱. ⁣

13. But 𝘣𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘥 𝘪𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘸𝘢𝘺. ⁣
