Finding My Confidence Through Fashion
If you’re new-ish here, you probably don’t know how I became interested in sharing and promoting fashion on this platform.
back in 2011, I was in the midst of trying to find my style as both a photographer and as a woman. I birthed three kids in five years by the time I was 26, and overnight I had gone from 21 and cute to soft and uncomfortable. it didn’t help that I spent most of my days hiding my body in scrubs.
I started to devote a lot of time on Pinterest and Instagram desperate to find fashion inspo.
It was a legitimate SOS. like. HALP ME. I gotta feel human again.
While I was searching, I realized there was a huge gap in women’s fashion. so— I had to figure it out on my own, and it quickly became a passion.
I spent hours perusing racks and in dressing rooms.
I got bold with my style, making some major faux pas along the way.
I very awkwardly started putting myself in front of the camera to see what worked for my body type.
I never claimed to be a pro, but I knew that if this niche was missing for me, it was missing for you, too.
In doing this, slowly and surely, I found my style. I found my confidence.
It was the first time I realized that maaaaybe I actually did have something of value to offer other than my photography skills.
As someone who didn’t excel in anything in high school, for a long time I didn’t believe I had much to offer.
This personal project was the very beginning of the mindset shift that changed my life. I don’t know how or why, but I just knew that one day, the “average” bodied woman would be taking up space in the fashion world, on her terms.
So. as I was scrolling instagram and tiktok tonight, I actually started crying when I saw just how much fashion inspo and unapologetic body confidence is out there for us “in-betweeners,” and we should celebrate it.
